Don’t Go Back to Sleep

May 4, 2020 By Joyce Dillon Leave a Comment

don't go back to sleep
Sebastian Gabriel

This poem by Rumi, the Sufi poet, is centuries old but its message is still clear, urgent and timely amidst today’s global pandemic.

“The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.

Don’t go back to sleep.

You must ask for what you really want.

Don’t go back to sleep.

People are going back and forth across the doorsill,

where the two worlds touch. The door is round and open.

Don’t go back to sleep.”

We are in the midst of the most life-altering experience most of us have ever endured. Fear of this virus has triggered feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, and loss of control of our lives. We are in survival mode, yet yearning to return to the world we knew just a few short months ago. But Rumi’s message is clear:

WE CANNOT GO BACK. WE CANNOT GO BACK TO SLEEP.

So, we must use this sacred opportunity of time to reflect inward, to challenge ourselves to overcome this devastation of human life in order to create a new world that is kinder, healthier, peaceful and loving, a world that is rooted in justice and equality for all. In other words:

A WORLD THAT WORKS FOR ALL.

To achieve this, we must use this time to make changes. If we do not apply what we learn from this experience, we will surely face the prospect of even more world devastation due to disease, war, economic collapse, climate change or some other global threat.

Ben White

I know what it takes to stay awake in difficult times. I know it is hard.

THE DOOR IS OPEN. THE CHOICE IS YOURS.

As individuals, we can make changes in many areas: our beliefs, our mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health, our work limits, our responsibility for our Earth home, our quality time spent with our families, and our service to others.

I agree: it’s easier to resist, deny, and stay unconscious while focusing on getting back to the life we enjoyed. But, we have a choice to make: remain complacent, or change. As Rumi says, the door is open. Some of us who have listened and learned will choose to cross that threshold to awaken our higher consciousness.

WILL YOU?

The Importance of Extreme Self Care Starting Now and 2018

December 6, 2017 By Joyce Dillon Leave a Comment

Extreme self-care is not just basic self-care. Most of us do basic self-care, like going to the dentist, getting a vision exam, or visiting our primary care doctor for a yearly check-up.
Additionally, you might take a Yoga class, treat yourself to a monthly massage, or exercise daily. But there is much more to extreme self-care than these basic practices. It involves a wholistic mindset and advanced practices that nurture your overall well-being so that you can live the life you love now, and throughout the new year to come.

You may think that extreme self-care, especially during the busy holidays, sounds selfish and self-absorbed. You may say, “Why should I put myself at the top of my list, or focus on what I want when others’ needs come first?”

Well, during the past 15 years, I’ve coached hundreds of clients who have wanted to significantly change their lives. Many of them have been able to overcome obstacles and make dramatic changes in their lives.

From this experience, I have identified six of the most common obstacles that consistently prevent people from really enjoying excellent self-care so they can live the life they love.

 Here are these six obstacles:

  1. Your schedule does not reflect your priorities. You find yourself exhausted at the end of the day with very little time to do the things that are important to you.
  2.  You feel drained by certain people, negative environments, and the management of things. You have a long list of things to do, which seemingly is never completed. Certain types of places and people drain your energy, including family members and some friends who call you to complain.
  3. You have a job or career that may still support you financially, but no longer supports you spiritually. You don’t know how to make the change you need, so you continue working the same job year after year.
  4. You have no plan or vision for your life. You are living day by day and making no changes in your health, relationships or career. Your life is becoming dull and boring.
  5. You are missing a supportive community in your life. You feel isolated and disconnected from others who are like-minded, and who could be of great value to you.
  6. Your spiritual well-being gets lost in your busy life. You would like to spend more time in meditation, prayer, and/or yoga but your busy life keeps getting in your way.

Creating the fulfilling life you want takes courage and vision, and your commitment to your own extreme self-care.

I know this to be true, because I spent much of my mid-life living in New York City, working a full-time nursing job in the evening while developing a fashion and event business during the day. I frequently went to bed at 1 a.m. and got up at 7:00 a.m. I was exhausted most of the time, but I just kept going.

It took me years to slow down and learn to say “no” to overworking and attending events that weren’t important to me.

It has only been during the past eight years that I started to seriously integrate extreme self-care in my life and make myself my priority. That is why I am very passionate about this subject!

Hay House author and life coach Cheryl Richardson wrote a wonderful book, “The Art of Extreme Self-Care: Transform Your Life One Month at a Time.”

Cheryl says, “Enjoying a life of extreme self-care means living and working in a soul-nurturing environment, developing a greater appreciation for and connection with nature, doing work that provides an opportunity to express your greatest gifts and talents, and caring for your emotional, physical, and spiritual health in a way that’s aligned with who you are and what you most need.”

This is a challenging concept for most people!

Here are ways you can turn your life around one change at a time.

  1. Ask yourself, “what is showing up in my life, what is working and what needs to change? What is creating stress and unhappiness in my life?”
  2. Get clear on what you really want for your life. Get your priorities straight. Set new priorities that align with what is really important to you.
  3. Identify the old beliefs and patterns that are holding you back from living an empowered, healthy, and spiritual lifestyle.
  4. Hire a coach to help you be accountable for making change, and start your New Year by joining my 4-hour “Get Going – Jump Into 2018” workshop.
  5. Create a plan that will help you improve your health, nutrition, and well-being. If you have health issues, your health care must be one of your main priorities. Tell yourself the truth about the types of foods you are putting into your body, and how you are really treating your body, while expecting it to fuel and support you all day.
  6. Find a community of like-minded people to support, challenge and encourage you to be your best self. This is one of the most important things you can do to create and sustain your well-being.
  7. Increase your spiritual practice with meditation, prayer, and engaging in religious/spiritual community. Online courses offered by The Shift Network, Sounds True, Wisdom University, and many others are available to support you.

Making a decision to change your life begins by becoming aware that you deserve to live a better life, a healthier life, a more abundant life. You then can make a choice to live a life of extreme, fulfilling self-care!

Let go of the past. In 2018, do something different that moves your life forward this year. Let yourself dream, create a vision, make a plan and most importantly, take action!

Seven Deadly Sins Conscious Business Owners Unconsciously Commit

December 1, 2015 By Joyce Dillon Leave a Comment

7 deadly sins

By Becky Arrington
Guest Blogger

As a Conscious Business owner you are heartfelt and passionate about the work you do. Most likely you have given your heart and soul to succeed, but you may have committed several of the Seven Deadly Sins that are keeping you from attracting more clients and your business from thriving.

    1. NO SALES STRATEGY: Many Conscious Business owners rely on The Law of Attraction to get their clients. Although Intention does work, it has to be coupled with Action to attract clients to your business. It is important to bridge the gap between holistic, spiritual concepts and the reality of business, creating a strategy that can attract more clients and keep them. Once you have the foundations of your business and are established, THEN you can employ the Law of Attraction to bring more clients into your business, but they have to be able to find you first.

    2. WON’T USE THE “S” WORD: Sales can feel inauthentic, especially if you don’t have the right words and offerings for your business. One of the hardest things to do as a Business Owner is to sell your business. That is why creating language that succinctly describes your business while sharing ways you can help the client out of their pain is an easy way to help you feel comfortable and confident when talking about your business. The “S” word doesn’t have to be Sleazy, let’s reframe it to be Sensational!!

    3. WANTS TO HEAL THE WORLD: As a Conscious Business owner, you would like to work with everybody and perhaps you can. But in the meantime narrowing the scope will do wonders for your business. Having a specific niche to market to will allow you to speak the language of that group as well as fully integrate yourself into the problems they face, equaling MORE SALES!! Understanding who your target market is, what motivates them and what are their challenges will help you create marketing language that speaks directly to them.

    4. BELIEVES MONEY IS EVIL! : Whether it is a past life vow of poverty or some other block, ideas about money can be deep seated, creating the need to go to the root cause of your beliefs. Look deeply within or work with a professional to clear away the past money fears whether from this lifetime or from previous contracts. So many conscious business owners feel it is not right to accept money for their God given gifts. If you have that belief, take a look at the Universal Law of Exchange, stating an exchange of energy is required for every act. Consider looking deeply within to understand what old ideas you may have about money and perhaps it’s time to play nice with money and welcome it into your business!

    5. FEELS UNDER-QUALIFIED: STOP getting certifications!! Many Conscious Business owners are ex-corporate or did something totally unrelated in their former life, so confidence in this new direction may be lacking. More training comes to mind, when in reality it may be something else that is stopping them from moving forwards in their business. Other issues may be around perfectionism, when business owners think everything has to be perfect in order to begin. Whether it is a feeling of worthiness or perfectionism, these can be roadblocks in your business.

    6. FORGETS THE CLIENT: Oh horrors!! Helping others is what you live for! But a website filled with your personal belief mantras or an endless list of modalities and processes you use, is all about you. More sales come when you speak directly to the things in your client’s life that matter to THEM. Whether that be their pain, their hopes or what keeps them up at night. Targeting that pain and offering ways in which your solutions can help, is a way to connect more directly with them. After they are past the crisis, then they can check out your “about” page to know you.
    7. THINKS SPIRITUALITY AND SUCCESS ARE MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE: Whether you are a holistic healer or an ethical energy worker, there is a way to merge “change the world” intentions with 3rd dimensional business practices and create a successful, integral business that makes money. But it sometimes requires changing one’s mindset. Somewhere along the line many Conscious Business Owners have had a disconnect in the success department. It is possible to combine transformational strategies with sound business practices to help you create a platform to showcase your business and attract clients.
