Is your Life Trying to Get Your Attention to Live More on Purpose?

Live-More-on-Purpose

Stress and burnout are common terms we hear and use today. But what are those feelings really trying to tell us?

Is something out of kilter or do you find less joy and meaning in your job or business? Are you just going through the motions of something that once excited and motivated you?

From my own personal experiences and those of my clients, it was a feeling often equated to stress or burnout that turned out to be a wake-up call from inside that we were off-course in our life purpose.

Many people decide on a career path when they are young – in high school or college – or have it thrust upon them by their parents’ desire to see their child prosper in their adult life. Or they may have started a business with much enthusiasm and energy.

Then years later, they begin to feel disenchanted with the career choice or find their business is not giving them the satisfaction it once did.

This is a very uncomfortable and difficult place to be in. After all, there was much effort and expense getting to where you are today. And it is hard to think of abandoning or giving up on something you once wanted or seem destined to achieve.

But, this is one of many course corrections to be made in life.

If you are feeling disengaged or burned out, it is a sign to get back in touch with your true self.

So how does a professional, business owner, or entrepreneur figure out what is next on their journey?

I have found that the answers are inside each person if they are willing to give themselves the time and quiet to find their true self.

Life Purpose_DalaiLama

For business or professional people, to help make the time and quiet for clarity and then take action towards your life purpose, a coach with experience in both life purpose and business can make it easier to reach the point where you are living in the moment and enjoying your vocation and your life more fully.

For business people, the steps needed may mean a major career change, a rebranding or a reinvention. Or it may mean starting a new business or expanding your current business.

In any case, having someone coach, or mentor you and hold you accountable to yourself in prioritizing and acting on the steps needed to succeed is critical.

So if you are feeling stuck or out of kilter with yourself and your career or business, you may be feeling stress or burnout. And this may be your inner self struggling to clue you in on needed changes. Visit http://joycedillon.com/life-and-passion-quiz for a quiz about your life and passion.

It may be the easiest step you take to get motivated, excited and satisfied with your life again.

Is the Life or Business You Are Living The Life You Desire?

Life desires

As I travel to engage in conferences or coach entrepreneurs, teach life purpose classes or facilitate painting retreats, people consistently ask me the same question: “Joyce, how do I discover my purpose in life?”

Right now, millions of people are experiencing a yearning and desire to awaken to their unique gifts and talents, offer them in service to the world, and to enjoy a life of abundance and fulfillment as a result.

So why is living a life of meaning and purpose so elusive? It is because our current social system does not support us to live “on purpose” but rather to live “in survival mode.”

This is why many people feel trapped in a dull, daily routine which drains their life energy. They may also be plagued by stress, and wracked with anxiety and fear. Others are frantically “chasing the buck” and/or consumed with their lust for power and possessions.

However, many others may already enjoy freedom, the fruit of their prosperity generated from their business, but even such freedom does not quench their thirst for true and rich meaning in their life.

One of life’s great fulfillments is achieving true inner and outer purpose.

As we know, it is not always easy to find and live your life purpose! While this reflection work cannot be fully accomplished during a single session or a weekend retreat, it is a great place to start this process.

So how and where do you start?

The process begins with becoming self-aware, then accepting a high level of responsibility for your life. Next, you can learn how to remove the blocks and beliefs that keep you from realizing your true potential.

Clear your Path

Getting Clear on a New Path

The first step is to get quiet and get connected to the present moment. You must release your concerns regarding your past and your future. Meditation and quiet reflection are essential tools you’ll use on this journey of self-discovery.

Sit with a journal or piece of paper. Ask yourself: “What is trying to come forth in my life? What is my inner purpose for my life? What is my greater calling?”

Keep meditating and asking these questions.

Pay attention! Over time, your purpose will be revealed through the type of information, events and opportunities which come into your life.

Seven Deadly Sins Conscious Business Owners Unconsciously Commit

7 deadly sins

By Becky Arrington
Guest Blogger

As a Conscious Business owner you are heartfelt and passionate about the work you do. Most likely you have given your heart and soul to succeed, but you may have committed several of the Seven Deadly Sins that are keeping you from attracting more clients and your business from thriving.

    1. NO SALES STRATEGY: Many Conscious Business owners rely on The Law of Attraction to get their clients. Although Intention does work, it has to be coupled with Action to attract clients to your business. It is important to bridge the gap between holistic, spiritual concepts and the reality of business, creating a strategy that can attract more clients and keep them. Once you have the foundations of your business and are established, THEN you can employ the Law of Attraction to bring more clients into your business, but they have to be able to find you first.

    2. WON’T USE THE “S” WORD: Sales can feel inauthentic, especially if you don’t have the right words and offerings for your business. One of the hardest things to do as a Business Owner is to sell your business. That is why creating language that succinctly describes your business while sharing ways you can help the client out of their pain is an easy way to help you feel comfortable and confident when talking about your business. The “S” word doesn’t have to be Sleazy, let’s reframe it to be Sensational!!

    3. WANTS TO HEAL THE WORLD: As a Conscious Business owner, you would like to work with everybody and perhaps you can. But in the meantime narrowing the scope will do wonders for your business. Having a specific niche to market to will allow you to speak the language of that group as well as fully integrate yourself into the problems they face, equaling MORE SALES!! Understanding who your target market is, what motivates them and what are their challenges will help you create marketing language that speaks directly to them.

    4. BELIEVES MONEY IS EVIL! : Whether it is a past life vow of poverty or some other block, ideas about money can be deep seated, creating the need to go to the root cause of your beliefs. Look deeply within or work with a professional to clear away the past money fears whether from this lifetime or from previous contracts. So many conscious business owners feel it is not right to accept money for their God given gifts. If you have that belief, take a look at the Universal Law of Exchange, stating an exchange of energy is required for every act. Consider looking deeply within to understand what old ideas you may have about money and perhaps it’s time to play nice with money and welcome it into your business!

    5. FEELS UNDER-QUALIFIED: STOP getting certifications!! Many Conscious Business owners are ex-corporate or did something totally unrelated in their former life, so confidence in this new direction may be lacking. More training comes to mind, when in reality it may be something else that is stopping them from moving forwards in their business. Other issues may be around perfectionism, when business owners think everything has to be perfect in order to begin. Whether it is a feeling of worthiness or perfectionism, these can be roadblocks in your business.

    6. FORGETS THE CLIENT: Oh horrors!! Helping others is what you live for! But a website filled with your personal belief mantras or an endless list of modalities and processes you use, is all about you. More sales come when you speak directly to the things in your client’s life that matter to THEM. Whether that be their pain, their hopes or what keeps them up at night. Targeting that pain and offering ways in which your solutions can help, is a way to connect more directly with them. After they are past the crisis, then they can check out your “about” page to know you.
    7. THINKS SPIRITUALITY AND SUCCESS ARE MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE: Whether you are a holistic healer or an ethical energy worker, there is a way to merge “change the world” intentions with 3rd dimensional business practices and create a successful, integral business that makes money. But it sometimes requires changing one’s mindset. Somewhere along the line many Conscious Business Owners have had a disconnect in the success department. It is possible to combine transformational strategies with sound business practices to help you create a platform to showcase your business and attract clients.

2 Steps to Take Before You Successfully Launch a Business

Launch

Often, people come up with an idea for a business, product or service after they have completed a coaching program, participated in a marketing teleconference or attended a motivational seminar. This is great because it’s the first step toward entrepreneurial freedom!

The next step is to define how your business idea fits into your current lifestyle. Use these two power keys to define, refine and align your lifestyle with your ideas and goals.

Power Key 1: Assess Yourself Honestly!

What is showing up in your life right now? What are your main concerns? Do you or your family members have any health concerns? Do you have a solid support system comprised of a spouse, family, and/or close friends? Do you have the time and energy it takes to start a part-time or full-time business? Do you have the financial foundation to stay afloat for 6 to 12 months? What could potentially block your success?

In which areas of your life are you happy or at least satisfied, and which areas do you want to change? No area is more important than another, because a meaningful life is one of balance and fulfillment on many levels.

Self-assessment requires that you evaluate yourself and your lifestyle honestly as if you are an objective observer. It will help you get crystal clear about what you really want, whether you are ready to launch your business right now, and if so, how to design your business blueprint.

Power Key 2: Get Crystal Clear About What You Deeply Desire For Your Life

This next power key involves three practical steps which will help you clearly understand who you are authentically, and what you desire for your life. So how do you really get crystal clear?

Step One: Get Quiet

Sit in a comfortable, quiet place with no distractions. Be still, meditate, relax and just listen to that little inner voice that has been trying to reach you. What is trying to come forth from you?

Step Two: Note Ideas That Keep Calling YOU

What do you like to do, what interests you, what keeps attracting and holding your attention? What patterns keep showing up in your life? In what type of classes are you interested, but never allow yourself to take? What do you daydream about…ideas like opening a day spa, or a gourmet shop at the beach in Martha’s Vineyard, or using your creative flair with food to become a chef?

Step Three: Record Your Answers to These Questions

Next, while still in your quiet place, let your body and mind relax, and tell your inner self: Let’s go a little deeper.

What images keep popping into your mind when you think about your passion? If you had all the money in the world, what would you be doing with it? What do you really want to do next?

Write down whatever comes to your mind, whatever you deeply, seriously long for, not just superficial or material desires. Allow yourself to think really, really big! Do not edit yourself! This exercise will help you create a clearer picture for your next steps in creating your business idea.

How Do We Live Fully In The Present Moment?

“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life.” ― Eckhart Tolle

PresentMoment_August2015

Living in the moment means letting go of the past and not waiting for the future to arrive. It means living your life consciously aware that each moment your breath is a genuine gift!

So how do you start the process of living in the moment?

First you must become aware of how much time you spend dwelling on past memories, losses and mistakes, and considering how to resolve these old problems.

Next, think about how much time you spend focused on your future. Believing you will be fulfilled only when you get that great car, that perfect romantic relationship or that once-in-a-lifetime career opportunity is often not as fulfilling as you thought.

Such beliefs physically drain you of the life energy you need to experience the only thing that is real, which is the Now.

In his renowned book, Spiritual Solutions, Deepak Chopra speaks to the reality that it is our own mind, with its nearly constant stream of thoughts about the past, and the concern for the future that causes all of our anxiety and anguish. We create our own problems, not other people or outside environmental forces.

To live in the present moment means you have to be willing to slow down, simplify and do nothing. It takes a while to get to this point. It can be more difficult than it sounds. If you’re not in the habit of doing nothing for periods of time, how do you start?

Key 1: Start with an hour, perhaps a lunch hour, or choose to get up an hour early or set aside an hour on the weekend to just sit and be with yourself.

Key 2: Pay attention to what you are doing as you are doing it. It helps us truly see what is going on in our lives.

Many of us go through our days almost as though we are sleepwalking. Every now and then, we wake up for a brief instant of clarity and say to ourselves, “Why is this happening in my life”?

And then we fall back into our semiconscious state as we continue bumbling about, half asleep at the wheel of life. We don’t pay sufficient attention to what we are doing as we are doing it, and then we wonder why we end up in the predicaments that we do.

Key 3: Start by being aware of your daily thoughts and what you are thinking about. How much energy are you giving away to the past or the future? Be willing to slow down and start experiencing your moment-by-moment life.

Awaken To Your Calling: Create the Life and Work You Love

women_with_arms_outstretched

  • Are you yearning to make a life change but find it overwhelming?
  • Do you continue to work at a job that drains your very soul?
  • Are you fearful of doing what you most desire to do?

There is always a particular moment when you clearly know you need to make change in your life. That desire for change is a like a grain of sand in a shoe, imperceptible at first but grinding away until it becomes the only thing you notice. Your instinct is to dismiss the feelings. Saying, “I can tough this out “or “it could be worse”.

Often we find it easier to recognize the emotions and feeling of others but nearly impossible to recognize our own needs and yearnings. Why is this?

By midlife, after years of loss, comprise, denial, and fear we lose track of our “true self” and the dreams we had. We often struggle letting go of what does not serve our highest needs.

The ego has great difficulty letting go of anything and will defend itself with great intensity. The truth is we must let go of who we are in order to become who we want to be. Gregory Levoy, author of Callings: Finding and Following an Authentic life says, “Sometimes we hear the calling but fear what will be demanded of us if we respond to the “call”.

Our lives speak through our actions and reactions, our intuitions and instincts, our feelings and our words. If we can learn to listen, read our own responses, we will receive the guidance we need.

You must slow down to be able to hear the “calling”, as to why you need to reinvent yourself, change your mindset, change your career, go back to school, or start a business.

Moments of awareness come in many ways to point us toward action.
They include:

  • A dream that keeps coming back.
  • A symptom in your body that reoccurs
  • A call from someone you need to hear from
  • A book that falls into your lap
  • An emotional issue that keeps reappearing
  • A e-mail that excites you about doing volunteer work

These wake-up calls stimulate your intuition; encourage you to ask deeper questions and to seek the answers. This process is a gateway into the deepest layers of your “inner self”.

The time is now! All it takes is an idea, a discovery or a breakthrough that turns the fear of your unwanted situation into the hope of new possibilities.

5 Ways To Renew Your Body, Mind and Spirit Without Leaving Home

bloomingpoppyThere are days when I feel I can’t do one more thing. I feel physically and emotionally exhausted, and way over-extended. This is when I recognize that I must renew my mind, body and spirit.

Do you ever experience this as well?

If so, here are a few ways to help you get energized and back on track.

  1. Reserve one day only for self-pampering. Sleep later than normal. Get up slowly, meditate, enjoy a slow, healthy breakfast, read that great book next to your bed and take another nap. Pure bliss!
  2. Light a candle, run a hot bath and soak in scented oils for as long as you want. Let your self drift off and day-dream. Relaxation and day-dreaming is so healthy for your body and brain!
  3. Review your life vision. Are you going in the direction of your dream? Create a vision board, write in your journal, or paint a picture. Visualize yourself where you want to be in the near future. Believe you can create the reality you desire!
  4. Prepare a wonderful, healthy meal of fish, avocado and walnut salad, and steamed vegetables. Slowly sip green tea or a glass of red wine. Your body will love you for this!
  5. Take time to stretch, do some yoga on the mat, or go for a walk in the park. You will begin to release your stress and feel much more relaxed!

It’s Never Too Late To Change Your Life

women_with_arms_outstretchedIt’s never too late – never too late to start over, never too late to be happy. -Jane Fonda

Change is inevitable-and it is everywhere around us on the planet…

It’s hard not to see all the changes that are happening around us-as our old rigid structures such as our political, finance, health, are crumbling in front of us.

Most everyone I know has experienced some life-changing crisis that has required drastic change?

In the last few years, I have experienced several health challenges, and loss and grief of many things I loved in my life. Experiencing deep grief requires you to dig deep into who you are at your essence to help you rebound and reset the course of your life.

I had to work with my thoughts and beliefs daily to get through this rough period. It was about letting go of deep fear of loss and grief of who I thought my self to be. This transformative process required a profound shift in my mind, body and spirit. Here are three steps that helped me to get unstuck.

  1. Stop focusing on what you lost. Find something to replace it, and acknowledge the blessings you have now.
  2. Follow your passion and the next steps will be revealed to you. When you look back on your life you know this to be true.
  3. Trust your intuition and pay attention to the “calls” and synchronicities of events that the universe is sending to you daily.

As difficult as this period is, the changes we are all experiencing need to happen so we can create a more vibrant, authentic, and spiritually connected life.

Yes, change is inevitable-and it all begins with you!

5 Steps to the Path to Happiness

pathtohappiness From Pharrell Williams’ chart-topping hit “Happy” to Sharon Salzman’s Real Happiness at Work, it’s no wonder our happiness is foremost in our minds. Yet in our fast-paced, challenging, stressful lives, real happiness seems elusive.

So what exactly is happiness? Most people agree that happiness involves feeling good, and wanting to go on feeling that way. Unhappiness involves feeling bad about our selves and our lives, and therefore, wanting things to change for the better.

Elizabeth Lombardo, Ph.D, and author of the best-selling book A Happy You, says the first step is recognizing what you already have in your life right now, and being grateful for it. So, what makes you happy?

Here are five steps to generate greater happiness, despite challenges you may be facing.

  1. Forgive others and yourself. Forgiveness is the first step to real happiness.
  2. Connect with others. Find friends and groups of like-minded people who support each other.
  3. Take care of your body and mind. Exercise is a powerful tool for feeling good.
  4. Find passion, purpose and meaning in work and relaxation activities that support your dreams.
  5. Be part of something bigger than yourself. Serve organizations that support the causes in which you believe.

For many of us, happiness is a choice. Reality is not. It seems that making a choice to be happy actually can change your reality!

If you need a blast of happiness I recommend you consider coming to an intuitive painting class that totally support happiness, enjoyment and fun. Check it out.

5 Steps to Get Unstuck and Move Forward With Your Life

Joyce Dillon - Move forward with your life

It has been a hard year for a lot of us as we experience loss, grief, health issues and radical change, both personally and globally. Although you may not be able to make all the changes you want now, you can start to mentally and emotionally make changes for how you want your life to be.

It’s time to get unstuck and make a change! Do you know what changes you need to make? If you are like a lot of us, there is at least one area where you feel stagnant, blocked, or at a loss.

Should you try to breathe life back into a tired relationship–or say enough and stop throwing good years away? Have you had it with your ho-hum job that is leading you nowhere? Do you need to take better care of your body in a healthy way but don’t know where to start?

Are you yearning for change?
It is a time for deep introspection, and for exploring how you want to live this part of your life and how you want to become more authentically who you are.

Yoga man

  • Step One: Schedule a quiet time to think about some of the questions you need to ask yourself to make change.

Do I want to spend the rest of my working life in my present career? What changes can I begin to make now to ensure better physical and psychological health for the rest of my life? Which relationships do I want to keep and which do I let go? Am I really happy and content with my daily life now? The deeper question is “What Would I Love to Do With My Life?”

  • Step Two: Get clear about what you want for your life.

Develop a personal profile that highlights several areas: Your passions, your dream job or career, your wish for where you want to live, and your overall health and wellness. Give yourself permission to get in touch with your suppressed vision of who you truly are and how you want your life to actually be.

  • Step Three: Identify obstacles and outdated beliefs.

Do you have limiting thoughts that are holding you back?
Your set of beliefs, thoughts and lifestyle habits, which include your food choices, your form of exercise, your sleep patterns and stress level, can be an obstacle for living a healthy lifestyle. What are your thoughts and limiting behaviors? It is essential that you learn how to recognize your unproductive thoughts, and how the thoughts make you feel. If you feel good you know you are in a positive or higher vibration. Develop tools such as empowering statements like “Everything is in divine flow”, listen to music that will energize and refocus your thoughts.

  • Step Four: Take action to make permanent change.

It is not enough to just verbalize or visualize your goals. You must have a plan and take steps to create what you want!
Action Steps: Write down your vision and action steps to achieve them during the next 3 months. Identify your strengths and areas that need improvement and follow up with your plan.

  • Step Five: Get help to hold yourself accountable.

To help you manifest your goals and dreams, I recommend that you create accountability by finding a buddy, hiring a coach, or joining a mastermind group with like-minded people to help you reach you goals.

We are all coping in these turbulent times. It’s not abnormal or unusual to sometimes face the lesson or challenge, or to sometimes be in the dark either unaware or stuck. Relief is palpable when we discover that it’s okay to be where you are. Breathe, let go!
